Don Everly Has Joined Brother Phil in Rock and Roll Heaven

GREATGOLD NEWS – The oldest member of the popular duo called the Everly Brothers, Don Everly (February 1, 1937 – August 21, 2021), has joined his brother Phil Everly (January 19, 1939 – January 3, 2014) in Rock and Roll Heaven. Don Everly (pic-right) was 84 when he passed away seven years after brother Phil (pic-left), who died following an illness described as a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at age 74. The cause of Don’s August 21, 2021 death was not immediately disclosed.

The Everly Brothers were among the first group of performers officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Rock Hall of Fame website, Rockhall.com, referred to the Everly Brothers as “foundational architects of rock and roll”, and, upon Don’s death, credited him with singing the melody and playing “distinctive rhythm guitar on classic songs that have resonated throughout the ages”. Rock Hall further declared, “as a major influence on everyone from the Beatles to the Byrds and beyond, his musical impact will live on forever”.

The Everly Brothers started their career performing great, memorable hits since their first, “Bye Bye Love” in 1957, followed by “Wake Up Little Susie”, “All I Have To Do Is Dream”, “Problems”, “Cathy’s Clown”, “That’s Old Fashioned (That’s The Way Love Should Be)”, and many others, including “Bird Dog”. Although they’re gone, the magical, harmonizing sound of The Everly Brothers and their outstanding music can be heard and will continue in the mix of Classic Hits and Pop Oldies on GreatGold.fm Classic Hit Oldies Internet Radio.

The music world lost another giant a couple of days after Don Everly when legendary Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts passed on at 80. Charlie Watts propelled THE ROLLING STONES for more than a half-century helping to make the iconic band an irreplaceable part of rock and roll history. Charlie was a member of the Stones for 58 years, joining in January 1963 and remaining a member until his death in 2021.

Charlie Watts’ musical heartbeat contribution to the recordings and performances of the Rolling Stones can forever be heard in the Classic Rock, Pop Oldies, and Classic Hit Wannabees Mix in the GreatGold.fm Classic Hit Oldies internet radio stream.
