GREATGOLD – One of the most popular songs from 1971’s “Tapestry”, the hugely successful Carole King album, is “It’s Too Late”. The lyrics were written by Toni Stern, who handed them to Carole, who then wrote the intricate melody. The completed work was released as a single and became so popular on broadcast radio stations that it became a national number one song in no time thanks to the magical voice of Carole King.

Long time broadcast radio and internet veteran, Gary Morgan, bought the “Tapestry” album back when it first came out in 1971, and played the 33-1/3rd rpm vinyl grooves on every song, including “It’s Too Late”, hundreds, and probably thousands of times, over and over, until the day he bought the CD years later. Now, some of the music from that album have been included in the library of music heard on the GreatGold Internet Radio station, including clicks from the worn grooves in the original vinyl LP.

The “Tapestry” album was recorded 50 years ago, in January of 1971. What followed was dynamite. The album is believed to be one of the best-selling albums of all time, winning four Grammy awards, including Album of the Year. Plus, the “It’s Too Late” single, released with “I Feel The Earth Move” on the other side of the 45 rpm record, became Number One for five weeks.

Compact Discs (CDs) didn’t come along until 1982. Soon afterward record companies began to re-release many of their established vinyl albums and new recordings in the digital format. As soon as the digital version of “Tapestry” was released, Gary grabbed it up and soon after started to replace all of his loved vinyl LPs (long-playing records) by other artists, as so many music lovers did.
