PLUS Extra Plays to New Rock Hall of Fame Inductees!
GREATGOLD.FM (04/01/2018) – The traditional wisdom is that April Showers bring May Flowers, but, this April brings more than April Showers followed by May Flowers. It brings Special Attention to April born singers and to the bands with members born in April. Plus, April also brings the annual ceremony to honor the latest inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. The latter includes our tribute to the latest inductees by playing their songs more often all month long.
The 33rd Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Klipsch Audio, will take place on Saturday, April 14, 2018 in Cleveland. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2018 Induction Ceremony will again have its television premiere on HBO, and a radio broadcast on SiriusXM.
Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first recording. The 2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Performer Inductees were chosen by more than 900 voters, as well as the aggregate results of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s online fan vote.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland, Ohio, announced the 2018 crop of musicians scheduled for induction in a ceremony in April, 2018. They are performers, (see photo-top-left) Bon Jovi, (bottom-left) The Cars, (bottom-left) Dire Straits, (top-right) The Moody Blues, and (center-left) Nina Simone, plus (center-right) Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Tharpe is being recognized for being an early influence on rock and roll. Sister Rosetta became famous in 1938 with a record called “Rock Me.”
Tharpe was a star through the 1940’s, singing gospel music to the accompaniment of her own driving electric guitar. Her 1945 recording “Strange Things Happening Every Day” has been credited as the first gospel song to cross over to the “race” radio and music charts (later called “R&B”), reaching Number Two and becoming an early model for rock and roll. She was a model and inspiration to Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and other rock stars, including the bands being installed in 2018.
